Well done to all the players, coaches and everybody else associated with the club who have made this such a successful and entertaining season. Having watched the colts perform in the Plate Competition it would seem that the future of club is in good hands.

Hi Terry, only now noticed your message good to hear from you again . I would estimate your last game would have been the early eighties.

Is there any reason why the web site is not kept up to date? Why are fixtures not published until after the event. Perhaps the club exists only for a hub of player-members but there is the possibility that ex players and social members may just want to attend matches even if they are re arranged fixtures. I expect nothing to change: After all I've been associated with SRUFC more than 40 years and on many occasions during my playing days I turned up at distant clubs only to be told that the fixture had long since been cancelled.

Thanks pom, have another look and you will (hopefully) realise that the report is concerned entirely with 'what happened in the game' and why.

who wrote the colts 'match report'?? more than half the report was talking about the issue of colts playing senior rugby. this is an issue that is being looked into by the club. when writing a match report can you please concentrate more on what happened in the game.

Really sad news about Jim Weedon's very premature death. He'll be missed by all those old boys at the club and everyone who has come across him in his coaching role with boys and girls at the yougest ages. Many commisserations to his family.

Such said news about jim. Such a gud bloke. Without him I think the club wudve lost a few juniors over the years but due to his fun loving approach to rugby the junior section has grown!!! Thoughts n best wishes go out to his family.

Dear Marina, your comments have been sent to me to reply . The club has done incredibly well over the last few years to both reach the heights it has now and to have the facilities we currently enjoy. This has been recognised at both a Suffolk level, where we have become the Suffolk Sports Club of the year and at a Rugby level where I can assure you Stowmarket are held up to be an example of what can be achieved. The Club run three Senior sides, a Veterans side and Youth sides from Under 6's to Colts (17 and 18) and all teams are full of local Stow lads. Indeed the whole ethos of the Club is to bring its home grown players through to the senior section and we have refused to both pay players and to flood our 1st Team with imported players (as most of our local rivals do). Currently our 2nd and 3rd teams sit at the top of their leagues. I think what you are alluding to is that our 1st Team have lost a number of players this year who were with us last. We knew before the season started that a number were either moving on to other Clubs, moving for work or taking a rest and so the Club sought to cover these losses by bringing in a few local players who expressed an interest in joining us from other Clubs. Unfortunately three more players have now left during the season and this clearly is not what we would choose, but have to respect their decisions. The Club will not change its basic principles of playing local players and are currently giving many of our Colts players’ game time so that we can introduce a very promising set of Stowmarket boys into competitive league action. I hope the Stowmarket players who have left will one day return, but if they do they will have to fight for their positions and we will expect them to be 100% committed, otherwise they don’t need to bother. This season is going to be about consolidation for our 1st Team, but I can assure you life moves on and so will the Club, but one thing that will not change is the policy of using our Home Grown Talent. I hope this reassures you about what principles the club wants to follow, but if you need to go over anything please give me a call on 07775817437. Regards John Phoenix Chairman

It is good to see that there is plenty of support for this u16 team, and it is right to say that they have made tremendous progress this year, and the boys will tell you that they are regularly made aware of how far they have come as a team and as individuals within that team. The match report is just that. If it was a report on the progress that they have made this season it would have that title and not 'match report'. After the match the dressing room was like a funeral, not because of the defeat - there is no shame in losing - but because they hadn't done themselves justice when the occassion demanded it. There are reasons for that which will be addressed at training, but it is no use sweeping disappointment under the carpet. The boys will learn from that disappointment just as they learn from practice drills etc. Whatever they do in future, be it rugby, school exams, job interviews, work or whatever situation they find themselves in, they will know that they have to be fully prepared, and ready to make their mark on the day when it matters - because an opportunity wasted is their time and talent wasted.
